Are painted glass splashbacks safe for hobs?

Yes – as with the majority of our toughened glass splashbacks, this back-painted design is safe to use in kitchens, and heat-resistant enough to be placed behind a hob or stovetop.

Toughened glass is typically resilient enough to withstand heat up to 250°C, so this material is ideal for painted kitchen splashbacks or for use in bathrooms or washrooms, where it will likely be exposed to high temperatures, steam, and moisture.

That said, painted glass splashbacks are not meant to come into direct contact with a heat source. This means you should ensure there is a minimum distance of 100mm from the edge of the stovetop to the surface of the painted splashback – especially if it is a gas hob with open flames.

Bear this in mind when choosing the glass thickness for your painted kitchen splashback, and once it’s installed, always be careful to avoid letting hot pots and pans touch it while cooking.
